Hello,
My name is Aimee Erkman. I had tubal ligation surgery 22 January 2015, as well surgery to remove an IUD that may or may not have become embedded. A few days later, I was curious as to whether the IUD had actually become embedded and called the office. I was told there were no notes in my file, and the doctor was out with a child who was ill. I was also informed at that time, that the procedure had included Filschie Clips. I was dumbfounded. I had absolutely no idea these devices were to be included in my surgery. The doctor had carefully explained that she was going to make a small incision just below my belly button, and through laparoscopic surgery, was going to cut and tie each tube. She made ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION OF THE FILSCHIE CLIPS. She then carefully instructed me as to my post-op directions. NOT ONCE DID SHE WARN ME OF THE POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS AND DANGERS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PRODUCT. NOT ONCE DID SHE TELL ME SHE WOULD BE PUTTING THESE DANGEROUS DEVICES INTO MY BODY.
I experienced absolutely no pain for the first week. At the beginning of the second week, however, I began to experience stabbing pains to the extreme right and extreme left of my pelvis. I had a follow up appointment on 4 February 2015. My appointment was for 3:45 pm. At 4:45 pm, I explained to the nurse that it had been an hour since my appointment time. She became irritated and explained that the doctor was behind, and there was one patient ahead of me. After ten more minutes, I decided I must leave (I had a young child in daycare). There was noone at the front desk with which to reschedule.
I have a follow up appointment on 11 February, 2015. But my question is, after much research and after reading the testimony of many women, “Why were we not informed of the use of these devices in our procedures? Why were we led to believe that we were undergoing traditional tubal ligation surgery?” I get the feeling that the answer I will eventually come up with is this: the manufacture is paying these doctors to push this dangerous product.
What recourse do we have, Erin?

I can’t believe she didn’t tell you!!! Have you gotten a chance to look at the consent form you signed to see if it was indicated in there? If not then you should SUE their pants off!! Also have you gotten a chance to ask the doctor why she didn’t inform you verbally about the coils and what was her response?
