I had my first child in 2010. We began trying for baby #2 in 2012 but had 3 pregnancies end in early miscarriage. After a successful pregnancy in 2013, I decided I could not go through any more pain and loss and wanted my tubes tied. I asked my doctor about tubal ligation and he assured me that Essure was a safe alternative with little to no side effects. I had the device implanted in February of 2014 and thought everything was great. I had the hysterosalpingogram in May 2014 and it confirmed that the Essure had worked and my tubes were blocked. Everything seemed fine for a while but then I started noticing my periods were heavier and I was having more cramping. At first I thought it was because I was no longer on oral birth control. The pain has been getting worse with each cycle. My cycles are about 33 days and each period lasts for about 7 days. The first few days of each period are the worst. I bleed though a pad or tampon about every hour and have to get up through the night to change. I have actually considered buying adult briefs for bedtime. I have an appointment with my GYN next week to discuss these symptoms and see what he says. I am a Nurse Practitioner and asked many questions before having the procedure done. He assured me it was safe. After the procedure I found the Essure problems facebook page and asked my GYN about it and he again reassured me that Essure was safe and the problems the women were complaining about couldn’t be from Essure. I am hoping he will take me seriously now. I can’t handle this pain all the time. I am a mom, wife, graduate student, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Full time nursing instructor. I can’t afford to lose 2-3 days every month…this is NOT what I signed up for!
