My name is Anji. Like many, I live a very hectic life. I own two companies, married, on two Boards and raising a 15 month old grandson. I decided I wanted to get off birth control pills. I went to my doctor of 15 years for my annual exam. He knows how active I am, and that I work out in the gym 6 days a week. He recommended me having ESSURE. It seemed like a no brainer, insurance was covering it 100%, recovery time was one day and I could get off the BCP. Of course, I did not have time to do my own research and trusted my doctor to the max. So, what did I do, I got ESSURE on November 7, 2014. Within days, I started having issues. I was having severe headaches, major bloating and sharp pains on my left side. I thought ok, this is a result of my procedure. I gave it 10 days. I went to my doctor for my follow up appt. I told him I was having issues. He immediately asked if I had been on the internet? I said yes because I was having issues. He then proceded to make me feel like ‘it was in my head.’ I was really upset about how he was making me feel. He told me to give it till after Thanksgiving and come back to see him if I still had pain. Well, at that point, I did not want to go back. I started doing my own research in greater detail and decided to consutl with different doctors. I scheduled a consult with an Austin doctor. I sat with him for about an hour and told him everything. The minute he realized who my doctor was, the tone of the meeting went against me. He immediately sided with my doctor as they were ‘personal friends.’ He did not want anything to do with me, or at least that is how he made me feel. I told him that my left side was hurting. He then said, that is where your colon is and you need to see a GI doctor. I advised him that this was not a colon issue and had started right after my Essure procedure. Needless to say, I left his office unhappy. I then found Dr. Shawn Tassone on the Texas E-sisters FB page. I scheduled a consult with him. He totally understood my symptoms and said he could remove them. Well, as of Tuesday, December 30, 2014, I am now E-FREE. I continued to have sharp, stabbing pains on my left side and even told him right before surgery. When I woke up, I was informed that the coil on my left side had broken in half. I had those coils less than two months…..how does someting like that happen? I am now recovering at home and just so happy that I was persistent and found a doctor who would listen to me. I will make sure and tell every woman I know, DO NOT EVER get Essure. Thank you for allowing me to share my story. Anji MaCuk
