I had talked to my OB/GYN in August of 2012 about my options for birth control. I had no intentions of having any more children after I had my son and didn’t want to go back on the pill. I saw the brochure for the Essure and asked him about it. He explained that it was permanent and how the procedure worked. He explained that it was made out of nickel which I knew I was allergic to and I told him that I was allergic to it but he assured me that there it would not affect me because it had a ‘protective coating’ on it. This ‘protective coating’ I have since discovered is not meant to hold up to human body tempuratures. The coating eventually peels away and is potentially cancerous as well as the coil itself being dangerous to the body. I started experiencing back pain, some horrible crapping and periods, hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats, anxiety, depression, cysts, acne, numbness, tingling, spasms, metallic taste in mouth, painful periods, painful intercourse, pelvis inflammatory disease (PID), bacterial vaginosis, sharp/stabbing pelvic pain and more. I went to see a new OB/GYN and explained some problems I was having and asked about getting the Essure removed but he told me that was not the answer to my problem and even if I did want it removed I would have to have a hysterectomy. I am 32 and I am not prepared to go through the hormonal changes that come with a hysterectomy. I am looking into options to have it removed or reversed. In the meantime I will be seeing a new OB/GYN to get a second opinion. I will never recommend that anyone ever get this procedure. I wish I had never got it done. I hope to have it removed or reversed before it damages my body anymore than it already has.
