My name is April. In 2010, I had the Essure procedure done. I have 3 children and after my divorce it seemed like the right thing to do. I was wrong! My periods began to get worse and worse. I suffered from alot of pain and very heavy menstrual bleeding. During my cycle, I would soak through a super plus tampon and a pad every hour! It was horrible. In 2012, I chose to have the Novasure procedure done to help ‘cure’ my problem. The Novasure did help, but in 2014 the pain returned. This time even more severe than before. In March 2014, I went to my gyn for annual checkup and was declared fine. Later that same month, I was in such severe abdominal pain. I knew something was wrong. I went to my family doctor. He initially thought it was appendicitis. He ordered a CT scan to be done immediately. The CT scan ruled out appendicitis but revealed more devistating results. He told me I had multiple tumors throughout my female organs. He consulted with the on-call OBGYN and I was told to be in thier office bright and early the next day. More test and an ultrasound was performed. I was examined by another GYN located in the same office as my regular GYN. She immediatedly refered me to MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. She told me that they would not touch me there at my hometown hospital. That it appeared way too complicated for them to handle. So, off to Charleston I go. In less than 2 weeks, I had been to Charleston, which is a 2 1/2 hour drive from my home, 4 times. I ended up having a radical hysterectomy due to a very large tumor that had basically taken over my right ovary and fallopian tube. The Dr removed my cervix, uterus, both ovaries, both fallopian tubes, my appendix and omentum. WOW! I am 38 years old. As a result of surgery, I have been sent straight into menapause. At 38. I do firmly believe that the Essure procedure is not safe for any woman. I am not certain that it induced my tumor, but I definitely believe it played a huge part in the formation. Please, if you are considering Essure, DO NOT DO IT. There are many other methods of birth control that are safer. Please weigh your options.
