After having my 4th child, I was done with having children and wanted to make sure I couldn’t have anymore. I figured I could get on birth control for the rest of my life or just have my tubes tied and then there was talk of my husband getting a vasectomy. The Doctor told me that there was a new procedure that was safer than a guy getting a vasectomy and more permanently effective than getting your tubes tied, so I read up on it and decided that was the way to go.
After a month of the Essure being placed, I started to get cramping all the time and felt sick constantly; being intimate with my husband was also excruciatingly painful. I went back to the Doctor to find out what the issue was and she set up an appointment to take a look and see if they were properly placed. After that appointment she said things looked great and she didn’t see anything wrong.
The next few months went by and the pain got worse, my husband and I were not even able to be intimate at all. I was constantly moody, always in pain, and felt sick all the time. I finally went to see a different doctor and told him all my symptoms and after a few visits I was diagnosed with moderate to severe Endometriosis caused from the Essure.
I went a couple of months to the ER with the pain and we discussed a treatment or a Hysterectomy. Given the extent of damage already done, my chances of the treatment working was small, so a Hysterectomy was what was decided upon. I was 22 when that was done and I have been going through pre-menopause for about 7 years. I don’t want to see anyone else go through this horrible procedure and hope my story helps.
