I received Essure after my 3rd child and was told by my doctor that this procedure was the way to go. I was told that it was an in office procedure and that it had great reviews. My doctor said she was trained to place the Essure coils and was very confident. A year before I had my third child I asked about permanent birthcontrol and having my tubes tied and my doctor refused to do the surgery for me due to my age at the time; I was only 23 years old. I was also told there were a lot of risks having my tubes tied and she urged my husband to have a vasectomy instead. You can imagine our suprise when after our third child and asking about permanent birth control once again how excited our doctor was for me to have Essure placement. My husband and I trusted our doctor and thought this would be a great option for us with little to no risks.
During my procedure I had a lot of pain, so much I actually passed out and they had to use salts to wake me. My doctor had trouble inserting one of the coils. My husband who worked third shifts was asleep in our car outside of the office and he was wakened by a nurse to be there in my room after they had me back. They kept me longer until all my levels(blood pressure) were back to normal.
I had the die test and it showed two coils inserted in each tube and they showed complete closure. I was ofcourse told this procedure would not be painfuil as well but unfortunately I had pain and cramping during this test as well. I was told once again by the medical professional they never have had such difficulty and she apologized.
After the procedure I had a lot of cramping and bleeding. Since my Essure I have come to my OB/GYN numerous times with lower right pelvic pain. I have had pain and cramping after intercourse and have been given so many reasons why but no one has ever said it is due to my Essure placement. I have come to cope with the cramping and pain and accepted it but if Essure is the reason for all my pain and complications it needs to taken away as an option for birth control. When I have been asked about Essure I always tell people DON’T DO IT! The trauma and pain experienced during the insertion will haunt me and I would not wish that on my worse enemy.
