6 weeks after having our first child, I had the Essure implants installed. The procedure itself wasn’t bad. I had mild pain killers but I was awake the whole time. I honestly don’t remember much of the procedure. As directed, we used condoms for 3 months then went in for the follow up contrast dye test. Everything looked great. The first year I noticed mild pain in my right abdomine near my ovary, particularly when I’m ovulating, on my period, or having intercourse. In the past two years, my cycle has gotten irratic, my sex drive has nearly vanished, and I still have pain in that same spot. More recently, I’ve noticed that my breasts are growing, they ache and tingle, and I’m several days late for my period. I took a home test last night that came back negative, but if I don’t get my period within a week I will test again. I was 21 when the procedure was done and I was an ‘ideal candidate’ but honestly I’ve been seriously regretting it. I wish my doctor had at least tried to talk me out of making such a permannet decision. I want another child, not immediately, but eventually. Our first pregnancy was unplanned, and given my issues, I’m wondering if this isn’t the final reason that will push me to get the implants removed. Has anyone had them removed after 3 years? How bad was it? We’re you able to conceive?
