I received the Essure shortly after having my 3rd child. A couple months after receiving the implant I noticed a dramatic change in my body. I was trying to raise my 2 step kids and 3 daughters but became so Ill I would spend most days lying on the couch and in the bathroom. I struggled terribly taking care of my kids, especially my newborn. I was CONSTANTLY begging my dr to see me, and the receptionist quickly grew to loathe my calls. i constantly visited my primary dr and ob. my primary dr was convinced I had chron’s disease and actually started treating me w presnidone which created a wave of struggles in itself. but I had become very weak and malnourished. I had constant abdominal discomfort, diarrhea and nausea. I had to force myself to eat nutrition bars but easily lost 20 lbs and I was originally 5’5″ and only 130 to begin with. My mother suspected it could be the Essure and I tried to discuss the Essure w my Ob. He and his assistant treated me very poorly often to the point of tears, telling me there was nothing wrong w me until I came in w a fever one day. They ended up diagnosing me with intercystial cystitis. Which I had NO symptoms of until they started treating me for it. They also had me go through a arthroscopic procedure checking my bladder which was extraordinarily painful. I stopped accepting the treatments for IC and the symptoms started disappearing. I also went through a colonoscopy twice. The 1st one I was AWAKE for!! I felt like I was being raped and begged them to kill me, especially when they were trying to push through a point they were stuck (which I could even label the spot they were stuck). The nurse just kept hushing me it was almost over and intermittently I would pass out or give up in distress. I was even throwing up which was the only note pointed out in my record. It was the most horrifying experience. for my 2nd colonoscopy I begged my dr to make sure I was asleep because I was terrified, and he was very annoyed by me. My mother did research on the Essure and called me telling me she has a nickel allergy and I should be tested. I talked to my ob about getting the test which he was admiment I didn’t need because the Essure wasn’t my problem. The intercystal cystitis was. After receiving the nickel allergy test (which I noted in my original application for the Essure, I was unsure of any allergies I may have). The test showed positive and afterwards my Ob said he would agree to perform a partial hysterectomy. But I had grown to despise this dr and searched the entire state for someone who would perform the surgery. All the dr’s said I had to go to the dr that did the implant, but I refused. I finally found a dr that agreed, of whom had delivered my 1st daughter. The recovery from surgery was hell, especially the morphine. But I immediately was feeling the benefits of having the Essure removed. My dr did say the Fallopian tubes had some inflammation. This was nearly 3 years I fought this with dr’s having no idea how to treat me. I was even distraught that I was reported to the state twice for being an unfit mother. One being my ob’s assistant after I told her I could use help at home w the kids. I wanted help!!!! And she reported me to the state!!!!! I am NOT unfit but an EXTREMELY dedicated mother. I had contacted a lawyer about my story and they claimed I had nothing. Really??!!! I am still distressed that I had the 3 years ripped from me and inhibited my abilities to raise my children and especially be healthy to bond w my newborn. A simple allergy test should be MANDATORY!!! If Essure isn’t taken off the market altogether. I have all my medical records during this time if you would like them. There should be a lawsuit against Essure!!!! The dr’s make you feel like it’s so unbelievably safe w no recovery time. My suffering was so unnecessary !!!!!!!! Thank you Erin!!
