I am a 26 year old with three wonderful babies. I got the Essure in October 2013 after my husband and I decided we were done having babies. I had my last daughter in august of 2013. I was given the depo shot to prevent pregnancy until my Essure was confirmed. I had my Essure placed in ocotober. My appointment was actually Halloween day at 3 pm. When I made my appointment on Halloween I was sure I would be done in time to take my kids trick or treating since the procedure is supposed to only take 30 minutes and it was my daughter’s first halloween. This is the start of my troubles since getting essure. I go in to have my coils placed and only one coil will go into one of tubes the other tube kept pushing the coil out. After a hr and plenty of tries the dr was finally able to get the coil in after a hr of pain , cramps, and discomfort. As with all procedures they make you wait 15 minutes and take your vitals and ask how your feeling. Well after 15 minutes when it was time to check my vitals I was weak, pale, light headed, and shaking. They told me to lay down they will check it again in 15 more minutes. Well I just felt worse. My whole body was shaking I was cold and shivering and felt like I was going to pass out. Not to mention my blood pressure had dropped. I can’t rememeber my blood pressure from every thing that was going on. Everytime I would stand up my body did the same thing. Eventually the dr had me lie on the nasty office floor. The only way my blood pressure would go back up was laying down and by now the dr office is closed. I was going from hot to cold so hot I was sweating and so cold I was shivering. The Dr almost sent me to the hospital. At about 6pm my blood pressure gradually went back up enough for her to feel ok sending me home. By now it’s 6 and I haven’t even picked my kids up from the baby sitter and haven’t been able to get them ready. By the time I got home it would be 8 at night. So needless to say my kids didn’t even get to go trick or treating. I felt weak aND tired the rest of the night. When we finally got home I went straight to bed. The Dr had said in the office when I was scared to death that she has never seen anyone’s body react like mine did to the proedure. She even called me first thing the following business day to see if I was feeling any better. I guess that was my sign it was a mistake but with the coils already placed what could I do. So I waited until my appointment for the x-ray to confirm my tubes were closed. I had one more depo shot in novemeber. That’s two depo shots total. I got confirmation that my tubes where closed in January. Since then I have not had a period. It has been 7 months since I had the depo and since August since I have had any bleeding but that was from birth. So now my periods are gone and along with no periods are moodyNess, lack of desire, painful sex, bloating , and constant abdominal pain. I went back to the dr in march to find out why I wasn’t having a period, why sex hurt and why I had no desire for sex. My Dr informed me that it is all from the depo shot and that I needed to take birth control. (Why did I get permanent birth control if I was going to have to turn around and take a pill everyday that’s why I wanted permanent birth control) so I took birth control for for three months and I have had no relief of any of my symptoms. I haven’t had a depo shot in 7 months. How could it still be from the depo? When I mention it being from the essure it’s not even considered. The Dr’s are positive that nothing could be from the essure not even my vitals dropping and almost passing out for 2 hrs when the procedure was done. Well after months of the birth control pill and a ultrasound my symptoms are still not fixed so the Dr now thinks the only other option is a partial hysterectomy. If I would have been told of all this I would have chose the tubal which is what I wanted in the beginning. The Dr praised on how good this essure is and how they have never had any problems with it. Until now I have found the many women that have gone through similar things and ended up with a hysterectomy. Wish I would have known. When I asked for a tubal during pregnancy the dr convinced me that the essure was the best was to go. 30 minute procedure in and out no problems surgery or risk of infection plus it was supposed to be cheaper. Well now after several Dr appointments a ultrasound and soon to be a hysterectomy it’s going to be more expensive and I have gone through hell for almost a year! I hope one day they take this off of the market so that no other women have to go through all the headache pain and cost that I have.
