To start my story I am a registered nurse and I work in a hospital setting for the past 23 years. I trusted my gynecologist and believed that he was doing this procedure in my best interest. In 2009, after I was told I could never get pregnant again because of health issues (a reaction to tetracycline which caused my brain to swell), I was given the Essure information, which only included: outpatient procedure, permanent sterilization, no down time in the recovery phase. All of these were accurate. I had my three month test and it was confirmed that my Fallopian tubes were blocked. As the years went by my periods became increasingly more debilitating. The pain during ovulation was horrific. The clots that I passed during the first two days of my period were beyond normal. I had daily pelvic pain. The other pain on and off during the years were in the upper abdomen and mid to lower back. The bloating in my abdomen became so noticeable that I looked pregnant. Four years after this procedure I was diagnosed with an autoimmune diabetes and hypothyroidism. My concentration and memory were severely impaired. I have night sweats, daily headaches, chronic fatigue, and severe joint pain in random joints. Family members have noticed mood changes and signs of depression. During this period of time I have asked multiple doctors and not one of them understood the problems being associated with Essure. In October of this year I ended up having a total hysterectomy and salpingectomy. Two weeks post-op I can say that my brain is clearer,I have not had a headache and my joints are less sore. My glucose levels are better and I won’t know about my thyroid levels for another three weeks.my abdominal bloating is totally gone. I truly believe that these coils have truly changed my life, and not in a good way.
