I am 49 years old and two years ago I discussed with my GYN the various types of Birth Control possibilities. I had been on the pill many many ears and decided to try another form of BC after my provider advised me how wonderful the Essure has been. My children are grown ups and I have several grandchildren now. I’m no longer married but didnt want to worry about pregnancy when my sitution does change and I would be sexually active again. The Essure coils were explained to me and it did sound like a very painless procedure and it actually was. This was two years ago and I guess I never put the two together until I happen to come across an article by Erin B. on Yahoo News advocating against Essure. I realized all the cramping I’ve had with a specific lower back cramp on my left side was probably directely related to this. I always have general cramping in my lower abdomen and attributed this to hormonal issues. I have learned to cope with it all. I’m really active and work out quite a bit and it doesnt prevent me from anything physical however I am concerned for things to come and wonder if my body will eventually reject or if these coils will become a problem. I will have to research more to see if a Hysterectomy would save me some potential problems in my future and even if my insurance would cover it. It’s weird to see a news article that is directly related to you somehow and in this case realize this is in ‘my body’ right now! Having learned all this now I would have opted out of the Essure procedure at that time.
