In Dec 2010 after much research (I work in the healthcare field)….. I had an Essure implant/implanted. By May or June I began experiencing welts and rashes on a daily basis, which began to become more frequent and severe. I bought multiple medications for poison ivy, then thought perhaps angioedema from cardiac medication. Met with my cardiologist who had no ideas. Yet thought an allergy might be the case. Changed my med. $50.00 copay for the month. No change. Nothing helped. I began to suspect a nickel allergy by the fall. Next up was becoming red and having welts and hives from contact with any metal (jewelry- cosmetic) , man beard, razor in the shower, ANY metal exposed too. When I had mentioned this to my ‘installing essure OB/GYN’… just before his retirement a few weeks after, he was indignant. No chance allergy not possible. The FDA cleared that warning earlier, ‘it is something else’…I then began limiting my contact with metals, however nothing stopped the symptoms, they were just less severe. Had nickel allergy testing Dec. 2011 by a dermatologist. Test was positive for nickel allergy. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED STILL in other concerns…read below. And a preemtpive FDA ruling exempts these fool hardy folk?
I particuarly enjoy the ‘unbiased study’ that led to the FDA lifting the nickel ban…. How is study unbiased? NOT so much.Good question.. I have never had anyone explain that my through any of my questioning. The picture this paints…….? NOT favorable.

NEVER SHOULD THE NICKEL ALLERGY BAN HAVE BEEN LIFTED….AND THEN OF COURSE THE UNSUSPECTING Dr performing the procedure who has been told by the company a couple months before ‘no need now to ask about a nickel allergy’… Really? And now again with Bayer, – who has a warning placed for Nickel sensitivity IF, that is IF ONLY you read the fine print. FDA is where?
The FDA allowed Conceptus to stop requiring patients tested for a nickel allergy in advance of implantation in August 2011. Two fold problem as I see it. 1.) The study was not so ‘independent’ as it was co-authored by a board member for Conceptus. 2) Many women apparently are unaware of how this would present (such as myself) once it has gone systemic in your body. And I am in healthcare, and very cognizant of my health and changes in it. Just as happened to me, and hundreds of other women https://www.facebook.com/pages/Essure-problems/178631888835781?sk=wall&filter=12 upon mentioning these type items to the gynecologist who prformed our procedures, ‘Oh no, that wouldn’t be the cause of it. I’m sure you’ll find it something different.’. Whether afraid of suit to themselves, or perhaps having drank the proverbial Pharma ‘cool aid’ , whatever the complaints (and there are many) women are being told that would not be the cause. Consequently, these physicians are not reporting to the FDA. Mine retired in December, 2011, prior to my allergy result,so he will of course not be reporting. The OB/GYN I saw on 2-15-2012, who also coincidentally performs Essure procedures, also assured me that the incidence is VERY low, and he’s only performed one other removal of the coils insisted to me it is a ‘ very low number of women this happens to’. W.hen I informed him of my findings, he didn’t have much to say, especially after I told him I had filed a MAUDE report with the FDA.

I (and my insurance company spent several thousand dollars for procedure, I paid for most of it (high deductible), paid for all allergy testing, medication, recommended to remove coils. That is several thousand dollars (I have a 3k/5k deductible) and I need to get a second opinion, but the Dr. I saw last weeks recommends Laparascopic Removal. (3 belly scars, 1-2 weeks off of work).
There are several women on the Facebook site who have had, want to have their coils removed, and are interested in finding someone to represent them. I would be interested in your feedback/suggestions int his matter.
all the things that make up a girl’s life, I think it would be fair to categorize most of them into two groups: things done and things yet to do. And that is exactly how the years pass–waiting for certain milestones (like blue eye shadow) to come by so you can leap over them with joy and delight in your own maturity. Things like shopping–that is a given, since you’ve been doing it since you could walk. Slow-dancing with Greg Alcoke–that was a biggie, since it was preceded by such great anticipation. And so things go until you wake up one day and realize that the only thing left for you to experience is walking toward a bright light. PLEASE RESEARCH FOR YOURSELF IF YOU WOULD CONSIDER ESSURE AN OPTION.

I became really depressed started with therapy. Then from one med to another nothing worked. Today I am disabled on SSDI. Why, well I have depression, angioedema ,swelling almost everyday. I isolate myself sad and stressed. I wish I could remove them so my kids could have a healthier mom. I am now going to an allergist to see why angioadema is only getting wost. I ignored the pain for many years because I thought well I have to learn to live like this but my kids are getting older and I am getting worse. It hurts just to get out of bed. Everyday feels like I spent hours at the gym. If you read this please do not get this done essure is the leading cause of making your life feel tired, week and sick just always sick!!!
