My name is Gerri and I am a 52 year old woman. I had the Essure procedure done 8 years ago thinking that this was finally my solution for birth control. 1 year later I started experiencing horrific pain in my left leg. I had all kinds of tests run and the doctors could not figure out what was wrong. I never brought up the fact that I had the Essure coils implanted, I never would have thought that it was connected with the pain. I finally ran into a Microfascial Therapists that helped me to ease the pain. ($1500.00 later). I have had wrist pain, arm pain and leg pain over the last 6 years and chalked it up to arthritis. Until I started experiencing terrible pain in my abdomen. It was worse when I sat up, making it difficult to drive for longer than a few minutes. The pain lasted for a few days then went away. When it came back a few weeks later, the pain was worse, making it almost impossible to drive and I started to bleed a bit. ( I hadnt had a period in 8 years). I decided to keep track of the pain thinking that maybe my period was coming back and maybe it was just god awful menstrual cramps. I am the type of person that doesn’t like going to the doctor unless I absolutely have too. The pain got so unbearable that I decided to go see my OB/GYN. They did an ultrasound and while the nurse was performing it she says ‘do you have an IUD?’ I said no. She asked have you ever had one. I said no and asked why she asked me that. She looked very puzzeled and then I told her about my procedure that I had done 8 years ago and replied ‘that explains it, but it’s not where it’s supposed to be’. After going back to see the doctor she explained that both springs had fallen from my tubes and were in the lower part of my euterus and not only was it causing the abdominal pain but I need to find a different method of birth control. I was livid! I started googling Essure and was horrified by what I found. 1000’s of women that were experiencing the same symptoms as myself. I recently had a Hystarectomy to have the springs removed and my abdominal pain is now gone. The pain I have been experiencing over the years throughout the last 8 years has gotten much better. My doctor says that she doesn’t believe that there is a connection between the Essure and the pain. But I disagree. How can it be a coincidence that all these women have the same symptoms. I am reaching my mentapause years, but it makes me angry that women in there 20’s and 30’s are going through this hell and have to have Hystorectomies to have this product removed, eliminating their chances of having children. What really angers me is that no one is being held accountable. Where is the justice in this? Thanks for reading my story along with others. Maybe together we can keep this from happening to other women. Thanks Erin Brockovich for supporting us women whom are going through this hell and shame on Bayer and the doctors out there that are supporting this defective product.
