I was watching Doctors on TV yesterday and was sooo surprised when I heard other women talking about their bad experiences with Essure but I have to share my story. My name is Gwendolyn and I had the Essure procedure done in 2009. After the experience, I experienced abdominal pain, nausea, unexplained bloating, tingling throughout lower and bottom extremities and pain throughout my body.
I may have left off some of my symptoms but the pain and swelling was so bad that I had to go on disability from my job. My OB/GYN could not ever explain why I had this reaction. I in turn advised her that I didn’t feel like this until I had the procedure done and she said the only way to get rid of the Essure device was to have a hysterectomy so this is what was done. She also adviced me that none of her other patients have experienced problems with the Essure procedure so I thought I was the only one to encounter problems.
I got better and returned back to work and of course my Employer was not happy with me for going out on disability for 5 months so I had to get another job. Started the other job and all the symptoms returned except the bloating is not as severe as it was and I am now at home trying to get better but struggle everyday. Bottom line is I now have pain and arthritis issues for an unexplained reason and I am only 43 years old. If you think you paid in the system for disability your whole life and it will be there when you get sick, you are wrong, I filed for disability in 2011 and I still don’t have a court hearing.
I still have a 19 year old son to put through college and a 8 year old daughter to care for.
My hope is that if someone is considering doing this procedure, please do your research because you never know how your body will respond. My body obviously didn’t take well to the procedure and I am still paying for it.
