I had the essure procedure done in 2011. After having complications with my pregnancy earlier that year, I decided a permanent birth control was the safest option. My doctor recommended this procedure because it was done awake, in office, with little side effects. I researched as much as I could and found very little complaints. The procedure went well but shortly after, I started having very bad cramping daily. I still have cramping almost every day and my periods are very painful, though they never were in the past. I also have severe pain when I cough or sneeze, to the point I was sent to a surgeon to check for a hernia. One year ago, I went to a new doctor, explained my symptoms and she ordered an ultrasound. She found that one of the coils had come out of the fallopian tube and was hanging in my uterus. She wanted to go in and try to ‘tug’ it out and if that didn’t work, she wanted to do a complete tubal ligation and consider a hysterectomy. I felt this was a bit extreme so I went for a second opinion. The second doctor said to do nothing and leave the coil. With two extremely different opinions, I sought the opinion of a third doctor who again suggested to leave the coil alone. So with no answer and no help, I continue to live with the daily cramping.
