I got the Essure coil in about 2002 when it first came to the Atlanta area. My GYN physician was one of the first in the Atlanta area to start inserting them. Shortly after, one of the coils fell out of place causing excruciating pain. That coil had to be removed from my uterus in an outpatient procedure. I also had to end up having a regular tubal ligation surgery since the coil fell out of one tube. Unfortunately the other coil remained in and over the next 10yrs I was in worsening pelvic pain and went from doctor to doctor trying to find out why to no avail. I couldn’t have sex because it was so painful, was tired all the time and felt like something terrible was happening to me and everyone thought I was crazy. Finally I went to a wholistic doctor who told me that she believed the coil is my problem and I should insist it be removed. I went to my GYN who sent me to a physician in Towson, MD(by this time I had moved to MD) after I refused to accept her patronizing speech telling me that there is probably nothing that can be done. I went to the physician in Towson who told me that he was just reading an article about some women in Canada who had severe pelvic pain from the coils. He said he was approached about inserting them and for his own reasons he decided not to. He told me I had to have a hysterectomy because there was no other way to remove it. I was so thrilled to have some validation for my 10 years of suffering and was happy to do anything to end it. I had the hysterectomy in 2011 and felt great. After my follow-up post operative appointment I was skipping to my car. My doctor smiled and told me I can get a boyfriend now (during that time I got divorced too).
I contacted a well known law firm in the area about my experience and they said they would not take my case. Since then I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to be able to do something to help other women avoid what happened to me. My daughter told me about the news story about the Essure coils and when I saw it I decided to write my story to you and find out how I could get involved to help with getting the Essure product off the market. I also want to help us women that have suffered so badly to be compensated for some of the pain we’ve gone through. Feel free to contact me anytime with how I can help.
Sincerely,
Irma Anderson
I am one of the admins of Essureproblems. Were you a participant in the essure trials called STOP? Please get in touch if you were. Thanks
Glad we have this site to increase awareness for other women. Glad Erin Brokovich is on our side. I filed with the FDA as well.
