I had the essure procedure done in August 2012 when I was 24. I stupidly didn’t research it online as I now wish I did. I have two children and due to financial reasons and difficult pregnancies and labor, decided I wanted something permanent. The actual procedure wasn’t horrible. It was painful but not too unbearable. The Doctor could not fully insert the left coil and decided to just let it stay partially in, I suppose maybe she couldn’t pull it out once she put it in? Not sure. She did comment that perhaps my left tube was already blocked, which I find hard to believe since with both my children it literally took just one time. Anyway, the insertion of the left coil hurt. Afterward I felt fine. No problems, figured I was good to go. For three months I had no problems with it, and then it started. It took me a while to realize what was happening was related to the essure. First my periods would be really late. First it was only a few days, then weeks. Then one month I didn’t even get a period. I used to get worried I was pregnant, as I would get severely bloated, extremely sensitive and swollen breasts and nausea. But after 6 months of taking pregnancy tests, I realized this was just the new ‘normal’ for me with Essure. Doctors have told me supposedly it’s because I’m no longer on birth control but that’s funny because when I wasn’t on birth control before essure, I was always regular, never got nauseated. 3 months after the procedure I got horrible rashes on my hand. At first I thought it would clear up if I used hypoallergenic soap an Eczema lotion. But it never gets better. I have severe eczema on my hand and the ONLY thing that changed was I got the essure. I have little bubbles of pus slowly pop through my skin. I’ve been told it’s eczema but I’m positive it’s from the nickel in the essure since I’ve never had this problem before and did everything I could to get rid of it yet it won’t go away. I have a really bad allergy to nickel but apparently they didn’t feel the need to tell me. I’m nauseated on a daily basis. I’ve changed my diet, stopped eating diary, stopped eating eggs and gluten and nothing helps. No matter what I do, it will not go away. After 3 months of having essure I had severe pain after having sex. My husband investigated and seriously felt something sharp. I went to the obgyn and she also felt it. They did an ultrasound and they looked to be exactly where they were supposed to be. Luckily I don’t have that pain anymore but what exactly is poking through my skin? I’m just not sure. Nobody knows. It has to be the essure, what else could possible be so sharp you could feel it with your hands? They did nothing other than to tell me they looked to be in place. So who knows. I wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually migrate somewhere else. I plan on going to North Carolina to get them out as soon as I can afford to. Currently I cannot afford it but we are saving for it because I will not live like this anymore. I wish I could tell every woman to never get this done. How many more woman have to suffer before the do something? I’m just so angry I have something in my body causing so many problems yet they don’t care and despite tons of woman having problems, they still implant them. I will not get a hysterectomy at 24, so I’ll just have to pay almost $8,000 to get them removed. Thanks Essure.
