Essure Procedure

Last January (Jan 4, 2013) at 31 years old and already having two children decided to have the essure.  Having 2 kids and not being with the fathers it is super difficult to be a single parent especially financially.  I made this decision because I didn’t want to bring another child into the world that I couldn’t afford and having my 2nd child while on birth control plus having complications with the mirena implant I thought that this was the best route to go, boy was I wrong.  I never really understood the bad things about this and there really wasn’t a whole lot of information from the negative side of this procedure.  I remember going in to have the procedure done and the doctor told me there would be a metallic taste and I wouldn’t be able to feel anything.  That was the biggest load of crap.  I screamed and cried the entire way thr the procedure telling the doctor repeatedly that I felt every coil as they were forced up my tubes.  Needless to say the pain and issues didn’t stop there.  More then half or every month was painful no matter what I did.  I was bloated all the time, which has never happened in my life.  I gained more weight with the essure than either of my pregnancies.  The pain got to the point I was missing work and in bed constantly on pain meds.  I finally went to the doctor on the issue June 2014. Due to not having insurance till May 2014 this was the first opportunity I had to address the issue.  The doctor sent me to ultrasound and an obgyn.  I wnet into the ultrasound and was told that both of my tubes were inflammed as well as one of my ovaries. I saw the obgyn a couple weeks later I saw the obgyn.  The doctor told me that insurance doesn’t pay for removal surgery and they would have to put me on preventative medications to try to address the issues before they could recommend surgery as the only option.  Three months later I was back in the office with no positive change of any kind.  The doctors set me down and proceded to tell me they could remove it but that their doctors had never done the procedure more than 5 times. They also informed me that I could or would lose my female parts because of it.  Me, not being satisfied with that answer, went outside the military for surgery which left my new husdand as of March 2014 to pay out of pocket. I wanted the security of having someone that had done the procedure hundreds of times verses 5 times and I didn’t want to possibly have to be medicated to compensate for having my female parts having to possibly being removed.  Three weeks after my surgery on November 7, 2014 I am feeling tons better. My hips and back still bother me a little from time to time and there is still some swelling.  The swelling is obviously normal less than a month after surgery but has been rapidly getting better by the day.  I just wish that insurance would pay for a reversal or removal procedure when essure seems to be causing a lot of issues for lots of women.  We are filing a claim to insurance hoping they will at least help contribute to the $7000 necessary surgery.
