I had the Essure procedure done in 2009 after the birth of my second child. I had this particular procedure because I was told that there was less complications, it didn’t require such a long recovery time like having your tubes tied, and it was a permanent form of birth control. In the late spring of 2012 I was have extreme lower abdomine pains, I attributed them to possible cyst on my ovaries which I have had issues with since my teenage year. I was have normal ‘month visits’ so I didn’t think pregnancy was possible however by August the pains were becoming unberable and within the course of the previous month I had had 2 periods. I took an in-home pregnancy test that came out positive which immediated had me breaking down. I knew there was absolutely no chance that I was pregnant the Essure should have made that impossible, so I went straight to the local clinic where they began running test. After the results showed that I was pregnant the clinic immediately sent me to the OBGYN facility. There I was taken in and after going over my record they gave me an ultra-sound. The doctor said well everything is in the correct spot and the baby looks healthy, still in shock I said, ‘Yes but I am not suppose to get pregnant.’ He then went through my records again and said I see where you had the Essure I think we need to send you to the hospital so that we can at least attempt to see where the device is in your body and we can look at the baby better. I then went to the hospital where they gave me another ulta-sound but with a better machine. The girl administering the ulta-sound mainly focused on my uterus because they believed there was a high possiblity that the Essure was actually in there with the baby. After carefully looking she decided that it was not in the uterus and that my child was perfectly healthy, however she did believe she saw it outside of my fallopian tube. She stated that she personally felt that it had punctured through the wall of my fallopian tube but couldn’t give me a 100% answer and I needed to go back to the OBGYN and speak to the doctor there. I then returned to the OBGYN where the doctor escorted me into his office and began discussing my ultra-sound, everything except the Essure device. When he finished I ask him is there any possibility that this could puncture through my uterus and effect the baby, his comment to me was well I have never had to deal with anything like this and I will need to do more research on this before I can give you an answer. Being that this was the facility that administer the procedure I would have at least thought that they would know about these types of issues which I stressed to the doctor. His next comment had me furious, ‘Well the papers and pictures clearly have your name on them, however the doctor that administer the procedure could have just added you name to someone elses file.’ I understand that any medical facility is afraid of lawsuits but do not make my current situation less or try to deny that it was me who had the procedure done, when the ulta sound clearly showed one Essure still in place while the other one may have been spotted floating around outside of my fallopian tube considering they couldn’t give me a definite answer. He then stated that if the device did infact come out of its place I probably just lost it while on my menstation and not to worry about the little blip that appeared in the ultra sound that probably was not the Essure. After that the doctor then began asking me if I would like an abortion which I repeatedly told him no throughout that office visit he ask me 5 times if I would like the abortion and everytime the same answer was given no, I was now under the impression that he was trying to get me to have the abortion to remove all traces of my child and the botched Essure procedure. I then ask him if I should take any messures to insure that everything went good with the pregnancy and whether this would be a high risk pregnancy considering everything that was going on. He told me not to worry about anything and that is would not be a high risk pregnancy even if the device was still in my body. At the next appointment 2 weeks later he again pressed that I should consider having an abortion and yet again I told him no. By this time I was not having any periods and everything was going smoothly like any other pregnancy. So while at work I began having sever abdomine pains again but this time it was accompanied by excessive bleeding. I rushed to the ER where I met my doctor and his exact words to me were, ‘If your body wants to abort your child then it will and do not come back over here if you are not 20 weeks or further along.’ I was then escorted out of the ER and sent home crying thinking that after all his failed attempts to get me to have an abortion he was going to get his way and I would not be able to have my baby. The next day I immediately contacted another OBGYN and began going to them, they immediately placed me on high risk and informed me that the other doctor should have. They done another ulta sound and it turned out that I was farther along than the original OBGYN facility said and that I was infact over the 20 weeks and I was having a little boy. Through that OBGYN facility I carried my child full term and had a healthy beautiful baby boy. I believe in my heart that if I would not have changed facilities they would have actually killed my child through carelessness just to remove all evidence that they screwed up the procedure they performed on me. I recently spoke to one of the nurses that worked in the OBGYN that performed my procedure and she informed me that I was not the only one to have a botched Essure done there were ‘many.’
