After having my second son, I knew I did not want any more children. I spoke with my ob-gyn about having my tubes tied and he suggested ESSURE. He said there was no surgery involved, no pain; it was done right in the doctor’s office and no down time. Well that sounded great to me, at the time.
I had no idea what I was about to experience. I had the ESSURE procedure done in August 2012. The procedure was one of the most painful experiences (besides childbirth) that I have ever gone though. I was in TEARS! I could barely walk afterwards. I bled very, very heavily for a week straight after the procedure and had horrible cramping. After about a week, the bleeding stopped, but the cramping did not.
A couple weeks after the Essure procedure, I started to experience memory loss, fatigue, hormonal changes (bad mood swings) headaches, nausea and my period came a week late the following month. I continued to have cramps every single day, as well as sharp, shooting pains where the coils were placed. Sometimes the pain would be on one side or the other but it was so severe, I couldn’t move. The next month, my period was late again. I continued to have cramping and sharp, stabbing pains. My memory loss started to fizzle out, but the headaches where still there, as well as the fatigue.
The next month, my period never came at all, but the cramps were still there. That was November 2012. I never had a period then (in November), never had a period in December, then all of a sudden January 2013, I got my period. The cramping eased off around the end of December and I never had cramping during the period I got in January 2013. My period was SO heavy I was changing tampons and pads every hour! After my period came and went, the cramps started to come back. Now, I have had them every few days or so.
I wish I would have known about all the issues this procedure has caused before I went through with it. I will never know if my body or my periods will ever be the same again. My insurance ran out so I never went to see if the coils were even still in place. Once my insurance comes back into play, I am going to have the x-rays done and see about possibly having the coils removed. I am only 26 years old and it’s scary to think about having a hysterectomy, but I would rather not have these coils in my body causing damage and putting me through pain. I’m really glad there is more information out there about ESSURE and I hope everyone does their research before they decide to do something so drastic. I have told everyone I know about ESSURE and told them how horrible it has been for me and thousands of other woman. I hope we can all come together and have this procedure banned!!

Good thing it became unsuccessful for you! Houdini Escape! I got my essure in 2010. I was told that it was better than removing my tubes. Being that I was a single mom with two kids and couldn’t afford downtime I choose this procedure. BIGGEST MISTAKE I MADE in life!! After my essure I developed lower back pain, metallic taste in mouth, a tearing feeling if I over stretch, bloating as if my ovaries are going to rupture, cysts in my ovaries, major yeast infections, sensitivity to my lower abdomen, migraines, depression, anxiety, and many more to list! My doctors don’t listen to me when I tell them it is the Essure. I’m 35 years old and I feel like I’m 70 plus at times. I’m going crazy!
