I have been married for 17 years and have not been able to get pregnant. My husband and I decided in 2012 that we needed to be responsible about our future. He is 9 years older than me. We did not want to be in our late 40’s and 50’s and learn we were going to have a baby. Because we felt we should be responislbe, we investigated birth control options. After a lengthy discussion with my doctor, we chose Essure. The procedure was done in September of 2012. The quick and painless proceedure I was promised was anything but quick and painless.
Since my proceedure, I have experienced some side effects. My side effects are very minor compared to the experiences I have read about from other women. However, I do experience pain. I can feel the coils inside my body. They do not produce severe pain, but I do feel twinges of pain. Since Essure, I have a lot of fatigue, head aches, and my hips hurt periodically. My periods are horrible. I was not on any type of birth control prior to the procedure, so the change in my periods are not because I am no longer on birth control. I am experiencing horrible clots and heavy bleeding. My cramps are, at times, extremely painful. My doctor has prescribed pain medication to help me tolerate menstral cramps. At this time, my symptoms are tollerable. But, I am very concerned that they are going to get worse. If given the opportunity, I would have Essure removed.
