In Feb 2012 I underwent Essure. I have 3 children and have severe estrogen sensitivity, so taking birth control results in migraines and debilitating pain. My doctor explained that Essure was the best option as I had underwent a craniotomy for my brain tumor removal 11/3/11, 3 weeks after giving birth to my youngest son and he advised against being under general anesthesia again for tubal so close to my previous surgery. Immediately after the surgery the bleeding issues began. I would bleed for 17-21 days straight, heavy heavy bleeding. My entire life my periods lasted 3-5 days of light red blood and I could get away with only wearing a light days pad or light tampon. I was now soaking a thick pad and bleeding through even the heavy tampons. I switched OBGYN as my dr that performed my essure said this is normal after having kids and I demanded a second opinion. My new OB suggested I get the Nova Sure to help minimize bleeding. I had the Novasure 4/2013 at 27 years old. Since I had the Novasure, the bleeding has diminished significantly but now I bleed randomly throughout the month with no rhyme or reason as to when this will come. I no longer have regular menstrual cycles, I cramp constantly and I have NO sex drive AT ALL. My dr says that this has been reported as a complication of an allergy to nickel in Essure. I told my initial OB I have a sensitivity to nickel and cannot wear fake jewelery because of this as I develop a severe rash but he told me it is a differen kind of metal and I will be fine. I have begged and pleaded to get these coils out so I can feel like me again and I have been told that my insurance (Medicaid) will NOT pay for this as it is ‘unnecessary’ since my coils are still where they were placed with no migration present. My husband and I have no sexual relationship anymore as I have NO desire, bleed randomly throughout month and orgasms cause me to cramp and hurt now. I am not even 30 yet and have lost my entire romantic life with my husband because of this. I have undergone numerous blood tests, scans and ultrasounds to figure out why this is happening and every time I get the same response ‘everything comes back within normal range’. I hope telling my story will stop anyone considering this horrible procedure. The dr and pamphlets they give you do NOT explain that you will bleed constantly, hurt every day and completely lose any hint of sexual desire.
I have a feeling I’m going to need a hysterectomy because of the pain I got after the Essure.
