I’m 40yrs old, mother of 4 and live in Weston WI. I had essure put in this year in Aug (2013). My best friend had it done couple yrs ago and has had no problems, except periods are heavier. I have not been so lucky! It started with the procedure. When the Dr. released to pull the probe or wand out of my left tube, it didn’t completely release. Leaving part of the coil inside tube and part of it on the wand she was holding in her hand. After tring for 15mins to get the coil out that had broke of inside, she said Im so sorry but I think we need to send you to surgery. At that point they got my hubby from the waiting room. My Dr, called for another Dr to come assist her. After him tring and me cramping to bad, the 2nd Dr said,’lets just leave it, even tho only tiny piece of coil in there, the tissue may do what it’s suppose to and grow around it’. So now she had to do the right side yet. No issues at all with right side was in and done in seconds.
I was cramping quite badly for couple days. After about 4 days I called nurse and told her it was still painful. After talking to Dr, called me back and said Dr thinks it because of the trama from them digging around in there and I didnt have a normal procedure. With in a a couple weeks the cramps were better, but since Aug I have been bleeding 3 wks out of month and Im still on birthcontrol pills. In between this time I have been sick to my stomach all the time!! Burping and bloated! Want to throw up all day long, gained about 5 lbs, had terrible headaches, and low back very sore. I actually made appt to get a physical done with my Dr. My OB did the procedure, not my family Dr. I could not get in for physical until Nov 11th, so I went to the walk-in one night after work. Walking in Dr was amazing! Was very concerned that I have been sick to stomach this long. Told her Had Essure done in Aug and have not been right since then. She went above and beyond what walk-in Dr’s do and ran several tests. Every sinlge thing came back normal except all my urine counts. They were all abnormal or very high. Said very strange cuz didnt have a UTI. She said had good start for my physical and she would put in her notes that might want to go down throat with scope to see whats going on in there. Walking Dr put me on prescription antacids and sent me on my way.
Started my prelosec prescription 40mg on a Sat, felt much better by Monday already, so thinking it was just lots of gas and this may fix it.
Wed morning, after having a nice romantic evening with my hubby, I started my day like always. At about 8am went to the bathroom fro 2nd time that morning and freaked out because, THERE WAS A COIL!! A WHOLE COIL. Not a partial one! So I knew it was the right side that went well! ALso lots of cramping on that side. Dr had me come in that day for an xray. YEP, the right side was gone and left still in there (what ever amount didnt break off during procedure).
Nurse called back later that day and said Dr recommends having my tubes tied now. Didnt want the surgery so asked her if medically had to have it done, or no. Dr said NO I will be fine if didnt do it and my hubby just went in for the ‘snip snip’.
Feeling way better to my stomach, so I dont know if was because the coil had been falling out for 3 months or what?? Still having back aches, but headaches are better too. Hoping with not having a whole one inside the left tube that I will be ok for the future. Really has been so stressful! Worried about it every day.
I do have to say, I did and do trust my OBGYN. She has said that she would be contacting the manufacture of Essure, the day she did my procedure as this has never happened before that coils kept breaking off. I hope she did cause this has not been a good experience for me at all! My hubby feels so bad, he wishes he would have just went in himself before. Now he has to anyway.
