Essure was supposed to make my life easier. ..no surgery permanent birth control and right back to work the next day. I had no idea that single outpatient trip to my doctors office would turn into almost 3 years of my health spiraling out of control and still lead to a major surgery and weeks of missed work. I am now 34 years old and mom to 3 beautiful children, I am also a very busy ER RN. My plate is full. July 2011 my daughter was born via unplanned, completely unexpected c section in a Catholic hospital where having a tubal ligation at the same time as a cesarean was forbidden. I was slightly devastated because I knew she was my last baby and now knew I faced another surgery if I wished to free myself from birth control. Essure was supposed to be my knight in shining armor to rescue me from surgery again but instead I have spent the past 3 years with uncontrollable weight gain, unknown hives and rashes, alopecia, fatigue, painful and heavy menstrual cycles, dizziness, an eye twitch, many others, but most importantly stabbing pains in my pelvic region. Several doctors refused to believe it was Essure causing my problems until one saintly physician ultrasounded me again to find a coil migrating into my uterus and nearly perforating into the side of my uterus (guess I know what was poking me). He completed my hysterectomy July 2014 and my stabbing is gone and I’ve lost over 20 pounds. Some of the other symptoms are still hanging around but slowly I am feeling like me again. So goodbye and good riddance so called knight in shining armor…
