I was implanted with Essure on November 19th 2008. My Dr and I discussed Essure, she explained that the procedure was quick and pain free. I would be able to begin my regular routine the very next day. I researched for weeks, asked questions of my Dr and I emailed Conceptus nurses with questions. I felt that I fully educated myself prior to agreeing. I found no negative information, so we proceeded. My procedure was done in the hospital setting with an Essure Rep in the room. My procedure went exactly as my Dr said it would, I had little cramping and spotting but was able to return to my daily life.
Soon after I began having pain where the coils were and very heavy cycles, I was told my body was adjusting. At the 3 month HSG February 2009, I was fully occluded but my pain persisted. Soon after that my cycle stopped completely. We ran tests to find out what was happening to my body, we could not find reason for the adverse reaction my body was having to my Essure implant, and it was now 2010. I have never had woman issues prior to Essure. No pain, no abnormal cycle and no abnormal cultures. As time went on my body became sorer, every joint in my body hurt, there were days that I could not move without pain, and it was drastically affecting my life. At this same time my daughter had serious health issues that required all of my attention so I put my health aside to care for her. When she recovered and I could again concentrate on me, my new Drs either never heard of Essure or never heard of adverse issues.
Now my body was so inflamed that if I stopped moving for 1 minute my body was like starting a rusty engine, this was pain I have never felt before. I had always been athletic; I went to the gym and hiking several times a week. Now I have pain that is deep in my bones and I can’t explain. I even asked my Dr to test me for An Auto immune disease. I wasn’t sleeping because when I laid down the pain was worse, when I tossed and turned at night I felt as if my hips were not attached to my body. I have stabbing pains in my hips that is so bad it makes me dizzy; this is pain that comes from inside my body. You could hit me on the outside where my pain is on the inside and it would not hurt.
I have constant lower back pain some days I can’t stand from a sitting position or get out of the car. I get sharp pains in my head, some so severe I have had to scream for help. I have a new Dr, new battery of tests; ultrasound shows several fibroids, no coils and abnormal uterine thickening that required hysteroscopy, biopsy and a D&C. When my cycle stopped my body did not go through the normal changes it should have had it stopped normally.
It’s now 2012 and I am post-menopausal, but had no real symptoms. In 2 years my body went through induced hormonal changes. During the hysteroscopy it was found that my coils are no longer in my tubes, an X-ray shows they are somewhere in my pelvic area, possibly floating. This Dr wanted to do a removal surgery without knowing where the coils are exactly. I have recently returned to my implanting Dr. She is no longer implanting Essure because of the problems woman were having. We are again starting the process to locate my coils. In my conversation with my implanting Dr she apologized several times, she said she and her colleagues feel as though they were duped by Conceptus Reps. They were not told of adverse events, possible pregnancies, that the coils could migrate or eject from our bodies.. And when she tried to contact then because of problems, the Reps were unreachable. When she contacted Conceptus about removal she says they were very vague when they finally responded. She informed me that she reported several issues to the FDA herself and agrees that Essure is a very bad product…
