I am a 33 year old mom of three children. After serious complications during my last pregnancy, my doctor, my husband and myself decided I needed permanent birth control. My doctor suggested Essure to UA because it was zero recovery and safe and permanent. I am a full time working mother and a firefighters wife…I never stop so 6-8 weeks recovery did not appeal to us. Essure was said to be safe and 24 hour recovery, done awake in my docs office. So we chose Essure. I was given a vicodin 20 minutes before the procedure to ‘calm’ my nerves and help with the ‘discomfort’. For a painless procedure the insertion process hurt like hell. Tears flowed down my face while they told me to my still. The insertion process took 30 minutes. I was told to get dressed and was escorted out of the room and my husband carried me to the car. March 13 2012 changed my life forever…I immediately had horrific cramping and pelvic pain that never went away. It slowly developed into awful heavy periods and chronic pelvic pain. After a year to was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia due to all of my widespread pain. I was constantly bloated looking five months pregnant. I developed heart palpitations, anxiety and mood swings. I developed allergies to dye and alcohol. Some days I couldn’t get out of bed. I was put on 17 different medications during this time. 9 failed emergency room visits numerous tests for doctors to tell me there was nothing wrong. Finally July 3 I was referred to a new gyno. My appointment was at 1:00 by 2:30 I was being wheeled up to emergency surgery for a bilateral salpingectomy. My tubes were nectrotic and perforated and four times the normal size. I recovered quickly and felt better for a week. I eventually returned to the hospital ER September 16, 2014 and was admitted for tests due to severe pelvic pain. An on call gyno decided to perform an emergency exploratory surgery. When I woke up I had a hysterectomy leaving my ovaries. My uterus weighed 9 lbs and confirmed adenomiosis. I was released 12 hours later to come home. 8 hours later I began feeling very sick and weak and could not urinate….back to the hospital. I have four quarts of urine in my kidneys and found out that none of my internal organs woke up from surgery. I was then heavily sedated admitted and spent the next 16 days in the hospital recovering and waiting for my bladder, liver, kidneys and colon to decide to function again. I lost 13 lbs during my stay at the hospital. I almost died due to kidney malfunction…. I now 9 weeks post op and feeling better every day. My fibro symptoms are gone and the chronic pelvic pain has ceased with no meds. I have a high nickel allergy and my toxin levels are dwindling ….my implanting doc never mentioned nickel allergies to me…my new gyno told me my problems were worse because of this…
