I met my deductible so I decided to go see my ob/gyn For some basic maintenance. I had missed my visit in 2013. I shared with her that every month I had horrible menstrual periods that tied me to my house for one to two days a month. I was tired all the time and needed to be fixed. We had a brief conversation which resulted in planning for essure on 8/7/14, a Novasure ablation and rectocele repair on 9/10/14 and my HSG on 11/3/14.
8/7/2014 I got the essure as planned. The right tube went right in without difficulty. The left implant was harder to get in place and took awhile. Something was blocking the way to get into the tube. It was very painful but that subsided.
9/10/2014 procedures performed: ablation and rectocele repair. In the surgery notes it is stated that the left essure implant was visible but nothing noted regarding the right. I had a long recovery with the procedures. I went from being instructed that there would be a 3 day out of work to being off for 5 weeks.
Procedures done on 9/10 and I was still bleeding at the hsg appt 11/3. I do not know if it was the rectocele repair opening and bleeding or something else.
11/3/2014. I had the HSG follow up appt. The scope was in the uterus and the dye started to flow and the scope popped right out. It had to be placed again. The dr had to poke and prod and try to move the uterus so’popping out’ would not happen again. This procedure was more pain than the placemeant of the essure and I was not advised to take any medicine. End result of hsg test. RIGHT COIL IS MISSING.
11/19/2014: My anemia is under control and numbers are better. So why am I experiencing weight gain, lightheadedness, dizziness, bloating, losing hair, irritability, yeast infection, and excruciating joint pain?
My doctor has been wonderful and has listened to me. The complaint I have with her approach was that no potential side effects were shared. I’m guessing she’s never had a patient experience any. She told me she has never had an implant disappear. She had had a patient come in to an apt with the coil. They had identified it as it was expelled and were able to grab it. My doctor contacted her essure rep who told her the essure expulsion rate is 1%. No Biggy I’m just that 1%.
I was a hard case for the placement for the essure, I was a hard case for recovering from the procedures on 9/10, and then again a hard case when the hsg identified the missing coil. I AM TIRED OF BEING A HARD CASE. I hurt, I’m frustrated, I want to go back to knowing my 1-2 day a month pain and bleeding. It was much more manageable than the side effects since Essure.
I now have a decision to make. Insert another essure device, tie the tube that is missing the essure, or hysterectomy. I am waiting for January to give it a few months to see if the bleeding stops and save up for the next medical bill. I could do the tubal or insert another essure device but after experiencing the side effects of having just one in I’m leaning towards the hysterectomy.
I am a single mom of three boys and I am just hoping they don’t suffer to much due to my problems. It’s already taking a toll on them.
