I had the Essure procedure done in Feb. 2009; my husband and I realized we were done having kids. The procedure took about an hour and a half for me because my uterus is too small. It was about six months after having the device placed, I started having body problems. I’m not sure what started first but I went to so many different doctors trying to find the source of all of the problems I was having with my body. I felt sick to my stomach and felt very hot all the time; we would keep the house at 65 degrees. I was diagnosed with having IBS-D and told to eat more yogurt and take these pills. It didn’t work at all; I continued to feel sick every day and always looking for the nearest restroom. Next I went to have a mammogram and there was infection in my left breast. The infection was so bad, I was referred to a surgeon, and he did a test and diagnosed me with Stage Zero Breast Cancer. I had a double mastectomy and had the rebuild all done on the same day. I didn’t have to have chemo or radiation and I didn’t have to take any drugs for five years. My hair fell out so bad, that I had to wear wigs because I had no hair in some spots. I had severe joint pain all over my body and low back every day all day. I looked like I was six months pregnant because of the constant bloat, gas and30 lbs of weight gain. I went from running around all the time to no energy, exhausted and unable to get up and go to work (was a real struggle). It felt like something was crawling inside of my abdominal and back all the time. The last thing that happened was I started to have my period twice month and the flow was heavy. I never once thought some or all of these symptoms were because of the Essure until Mar 2014, I started to research Essure on the internet. In Mar 2014, I went to see the GYN (Dr. Adler in Dumfries, VA) who placed the device and asked him to remove it; he asked why and I explained everything. He said, let me run some test and we will proceed from there and all the test came back normal. By April 2014, I looked him in his face with tears in my eyes and asked him to remove this thing immediately. He sent my insurance company the pre-approval forms and his diagnosis. They approved the procedure and I had it d0ne in May 2014. I felt like a new person, a week after surgery. I was running around the house again like my normal self. My hair is growing and almost all of the side effects are almost gone. I’m not sure if the Breast Cancer was because of the Essure but I had the BRAC test and they stated I don’t have any of the markers for breast cancer (plus no one in family has had Breast Cancer). In any event I wanted to share my crazy story.
