I got the essure in Dec 2009 as a friend referred me to it as the down time was next to nothing. During my procedure I had extreme pain when they went to put the coil in my right tube. Doctor had a little difficulty with it as well. They had to stop for a moment or two to allow me to calm. Once the procedure was done, they had to keep me in the room for about a hour or so for me to be able to go home. I was pasty white and shaking. I bled for 3 months after the procedure.
I had the HSG after 3 months to ensure the coils were in place and tubes blocked. They said I could drive myself as this was not a painful procedure. I had pain and cramping during the test. They had to quickly look to see if they were blocked and get out. I was kept in the office for a little under a hour so that I could drive myself home. My blood pressure dropped and I was pasty white and shaky yet again.
By May of 2010 (not even 6 months after the essure placement) I started experiencing migraines with syncope. I went to take a family member for surgery. They just got placed in a room when I did not feel right. I went into the hallway and that was the last I remember. I open my eyes and am on the floor being held up nurses and doctors. My blood pressure was 50/30 and slowly went up. From the on, I was a 5-7 day per week migraine suffer. Tried all the meds including botox over a 5 year period of time (2009-2014) In 2015, I decided to try a more nature approach as no one could tell me why I was suffering with the migraines or why I would randomly pass out. I am a very active person and it was difficult for me to do the things I loved as I never knew when my BP would plumet and I would wind up on the ground lacking a few minutes of time. I refused to give into the migraines. I had to work. I have kids to support.
I also had multiple other symptoms that were unexplained. I saw all sorts of doctors. Neurologist, Dermatologist, Orthopedic, Gyn, PCP and Anestician (laser skin therapy). I had cramping with heavy menstual periods (which I never had before the essure) with extreme back pain (felt like someone was stabbing me in the back to the front). I had hives on my face, chest and arms that were unexplained. Unexplained rashes. Fluid in my ears constantly (many trips to the dr and would always be there). Right hip pain that was unexplained. Extreme fatigue. Abdominal pain, swelling. The list goes on. No one could explain why or know how to treat any of it. I had nasal sprays, antibiotics, muscle relaxers, xrays, sonograms etc. Finally enough was enough. I did start supplements/vitamins and therapeutic massage. I did not want to pollute my body any more. It becomes very depressing to know that you have something wrong with you and no one can ever tell you why.
I did a timeline one day and it brought me back to the essure was when everything started. I saw my gyn whom referred me to Dr Luthringer. In May I had a partial hysterect0my (only my ovaries are left) to remove the essure. I have to say that was the best thing I ever did. Since my surgery, I have not had a migraine….I honestly can say what a headache feels like as I never had a mild headache before always extreme migraines, my skin looks fantastic ( I have had compliments from family and friends as well as my anestician..she could not believe the positive change), no more rashes, hip pain is non existent, fluid in the ears is gone (thank god as that was annoying), no more extreme abdominal pain…etc.. so overall all the systems that I had been dealing with for about 7 years are just about gone.
Now my friend whom referred me for the essure had hers removed also due to extreme medical problems with no explanation. Her coils actually perforated her tube. I am glad that she followed in my footsteps and saw the doctor to get hers removed. The Essure can be dangerous..all these women with all these issues..some catch them early and some are not as lucky.
I cannot thank Dr Luthringer enough as he gave me my life back.
