My name is Nicolle and in December of 2007 I had my second daughter. About 2 weeks after I had her, I became very ill and was in and out of the emergency room for about a week until they found that blood clots had formed in my lungs. Through a long hospital stay and medicine I was able to recover. Because of the blood clots the doctors refused to let me take birth control. I went for about a year with no birth control when my doctor mentioned the Essure. She said it would be perfect for me since I already had 2 kids and there was no hormones in this type of birth control. I agreed to it and after basically signing my life away, I had the procedure done. That was the start of my nightmare. It took about 2 months and from then on I was in the most pain I had ever been in. I was in and out of the doctor constantly. I had grapefruit size cysts removed from my ovaries in 2010. That recovery lasted about 6 months and then they were back. It came to the point where whenever I stood up, I felt like everything was going to fall out of me. I walked like I was 90 because I was in such pain. When I got my period I could feel the cramps all of the way down to my thighs. My mood was horrible. My life consisted of week 1 feeling totally nauses and extremely moody and then week 2 was my period with horrible cramps and week 3 was recovery for it to start all over again. I dealt with this for about 2 years and in December of 2012 I finally was able to convince a doctor to give me a hysterectomy. I already knew I was never going to be able to have kids again, so I figured get it all out of me. I was never okay with not ever even having the option to have kids again but it felt like I didn’t have any other options when it came to birth control. So I went in for my surgery not knowing if they were going to give me a complete hysterectomy or if they were going to try to save part of my ovarie. The surgery that was supposed to last 3 hours ended up lasting 5 hours. Once the doctors got in there, they found a huge amount of endometriosis that was growing inside my uterus as well as all over my stomach. Once they were done cutting away the cysts there was nothing left of either of my ovaries. They ended up having to do a complete hysterectomy at the age of 30. I blame all of this on the Essure. I had never had bad periods, cysts or anything until after I had that put in my body. Now mind you, they still will not put me on any type of hormones because of the previous blood clots so I am going through complete menopause with nothing to help with the side effects. The only good thing is, is that I am in no more pain. So to anyone out there that may be thinking about having this procedure done, I would definatley think twice about it.
