I went to my GYN to ask for a tubal ligation, I had tried several birth controls and my body did not respond well to them. I was done having children but I also didn’t want something with hormones in it. My doctor recommended Essure. She thought it would be my best option. I ended up with Essure on my right side and a tubal on the left on May 31,2012. In August 2012 I woke up with extreme hip/groin pain. I had no insurance at the time and only my income so I did not see the doctor immediately. The pain slowly progressed to my lower back and than to my pelvis. I was finally able to see the doctor in February 2013 and she sent me for a xray and physical therapy. Was in therapy for a few months, it wasn’t working so I stopped going. In the meantime, I went from having a 3-5 day mild regular period with cravings of chocolate. To having a very heavy period with a lot of clotting lasting anywhere from 7-14 days. I now have horrible cramping and bloating and very tender breasts. I am also getting them twice a month for most months since May 2013. I have also experienced joint pain, heart palpitations, extreme fatigue, abdominal spasms, bleeding and pain during and after intercourse, cysts, discharge, night sweats, fatigue, insomnia, flatulence, excessive qweefing, abdominal bloating 4-8 inches anytime I eat or during my period, vision problems, and weight gain only in face breasts and adbomen. I’ve had to see a cardiologist and orthopedic surgeon to find out what is wrong with me. Since they couldn’t find out what was wrong I gathered all my symptoms and spoke with my PCP who agreed that the only thing different about me was the Essure and that that had to be the problem. I am having surgery on April 8th. After speaking with a lot of woman myself through email etc I have found that we have a majority of the same symptoms. Based on that alone I do not believe Essure was ‘my best option’.
