I am a 34-year-old mother of three beautiful children and my husband and I decided to have the Essure procedure done in 2006. The procedure itself went good, but after three months and I had to go for the iodine check up with the radiologist. He found that the left Essure implant was missing. I spoke with my doctor right away after surgery and he said he placed both implants in my tubes and there was no evidence of scar tissue in either one. The radiologist informed me the device was only on my right side and my left was blocked even though the device was not there.
In 2010 I was having severe back pain, and went to my primary care physician. I had an MRI, X-ray done and he told me that he believes something is wrong with the Essure and maybe I should see my gyne. I called him and over the phone he told me that nothing is wrong, and if there is something he can give me a hysterectomy due to it. So, I called my primary and he told me do not let him give you a hysterectomy, he just can’t decide to do that over the phone.
Two days later the back pain was so bad that I called my gyne and told him the pain is really bad. He brought me in and did a vaginal ultrasound, he said out loud ‘oh boy, oh boy.’ I said ‘oh boy what, don’t say that’ and he said I have to get you in right away. I saw him Friday and then he performed the partial hysterectomy that next Tuesday. He said you have a fibroid. I said I have never had a fibroid, and I did not have any symptoms of fibroid. I have been seeing my gyne since I was 20 years old and I thought I had a good relationship with him. I trusted him very much, anything he said I did it.
When I went in for my partial hysterectomy the nurses kept questioning me why I was getting a hysterectomy because it wasn’t making any sense as I had no symptoms of fibroid, other than what my doctor supposedly saw on the ultrasound. I had the partial hysterectomy done with the Divinci Robot assist. I was out for about two to three days of my house work and of my job I was out for a month.
I saw my doctor for the follow up and he said the lab report showed the fibroid and it was big. I asked him what about the Essure and he said ‘oh that was fine, it was just lodged in your uterus but that had nothing to do with anything. He added that he only removed my uterus, right tube(with the Essure implant), and cervix.
I work in a lab so I went to get my lab report and read it ‘no finding of any fibroid, and a Essure implanted was found in uterus partial tube’ nothing else was wrong with me, I had no fibroid what so ever. It was just the Essure implant lodged in my uterus. I called and spoke with a supervisor at the lab who works in Pathology and she said if I had fibroid it would be in the patho report.
I called my gene and made an appoinyment with him and asked him to explain. He said well ‘the pathologist only looks for cancer and that’s it, in a patho report. Honestly he was full of crap and he tried to cover up for this Essure implant. I spoke with 7 lawyers and they all said I had a case but it is only battery because I have children already and was not thrown into early menopause. It is now three years later and was told I cannot do anything about it.
