Hello, my name is Teresa and I had the Essure procedure done in November, 2010. I was told by my OBGYN that it was an easy procedure with very little pain. He asked me if I was allergic to nickel and I said that I had not been tested but I do sometimes break out from cheap jewelry. He said it should be ok as the amount of nickel is small and most women have had good results. I made the mistake of believing my doctor and had the procedure. From the day of the prodedure until the day I had them removed, I had terrible back pain and pelvic pain. Also, my doctor said that after the procedure I would go back to having a normal period, but that didn’t happen. I haven’t had a period since before the prodedure. I also started having severe skin breakouts and rashes. Sex was very painful and it almost destroyed my relationship with my boyfriend. The lower back pain and pelvic pain was unbearable with sex. I told my OBGYN and he did some tests and said I just had a pelvic infection, but even after the infection cleared, I still had pain. I continued to get a lot of infections, rashes, and the back and pelvic pain continued for a few years. I went through 3 gynecologists before I finally found one that believed me when I said it was the Essure implants that were causing my pain and other problems. The Essure implants through me into immediate menipause. I finally found a Dr that believed me and in the fall of 2013, I had a hysterectomy to remove my uterus and fallopian tubes to remove the coils. The only reason I was able to have them removed though with some help from ny insurance company was because I also had a slightly prolapsed uterus. If my uterus wouldn’t have been prolapsed then the insurance company wouldn’t have paid a dime. This is wrong because they will pay to insert them but not pay for removal when they are causing pain. They say it is ellective and not a necessary procedure. Well it was necessary because I felt like I would have died if those things had stayed inside of me. To this day I still have back issues and have been diagnosed with degenerative joint disease and spinal stenosis in my lumbar sacral area and my neck. I also have chronic migraines. All of these things showed up after the Essure procedure. Of course most Drs don’t want to believe that the Essure implants had anything to do with it and are ever so eager to blame it on my age (47) born in 1967, my weight, and now menopause. Whatever. All I know is my life has been hell ever since and because of the pain I am also dealing with depression as well. I feel for any woman out there who has gone through this or worse due to these debilitating implants. God Bless You All. Teresa
