I got Essure done in Sept 2011 and never had any pain or problems. My only child was born in 2008 when I was 25. She was a surprise and I nearly bled to death during childbirth despite having a ‘perfect’ healthy pregnancy. I knew I did not want any more kids, especially with all of the problems I had. I’ve never been able to take any kind of birth control with hormones because I have mitral valve prolapse, family history of blood clots & heart attack, and PCOS. I had heard about Essure on tv & radio & was very interested. No doctor would agree to tie my tubes because I was ‘too young and might change my mind later’, which I knew I would not do. I found a doctor who agreed to do Essure in 2011. It was a very quick & painless procedure. He had given me a prescription for pain medicine, but I was too nervous to take it because I didn’t know if it would put me out. I went into his office & it was just like a regular exam. He even had a big tv monitor set up to a scope so we could watch the whole thing as it was happening. We watched him put the coils in place and it was done quickly. The whole procedure maybe took 20 minutes tops in his office. I didn’t feel any pain & went straight to work after leaving the office. I was told to have the dye test done 3 months later. At the time, I was staying out of state with my mom so I had to have a different doctor do that test. The doctor who did it didn’t seem to know what he was doing. He put the dye in really fast and it made me dizzy immediately. That part was uncomfortable and I did have a bit of stomach pain at that instant. He gave me the test results & said that it worked completely & both tubes were blocked off. I have not had any pain or discomfort from Essure and it’s been about 4 years. I keep hearing people say they got a card they’re supposed to carry with them but I never got one. I never heard of it until a year or 2 later. I have Blue Cross insurance & all it cost me was a $30 copay. I’m very happy with it so far.
