Hello,
i had the essure procedure June 2010, right after my third child was born. It was going to cost me more out of pocket to have a tubal ligation performed and more time out of work. The Essure was a very convenient option and they were able to get me in before my new insurance plan year and new deductible began. My menstrual cycle is and always has been very regular. So in October 2011, when my period was late, something told me I had to be pregnant. I have only been late 3 times in my life and here was the 4th, baby number 4! I was in a panic because I knew that my tubes should have been closed off from the Essure coils. An ultrasound showed a sac in my uterus, not in my tubes. I was having another baby. He came out healthy and is doing fine, but it was not in my budget to pay for more medical expenses. I selected a higher deductible with my health insurance because I did not expect any medical expenses outside of preventive care for my family. I asked if I could have a tubal this time and my doctors office told me I would have to come back after my 6 weeks check up so they could laparoscopically check to see where the coils were before doing a tubal ligation. Well, I am pregnant with baby #5! I am still paying for #4 and no I was not prepared to pay for a fifth. I will be Abe to get my tubal this time because I have to have a scheduled cesarean. Since they will have me open, they can feel for the coils so they know where to perform the tubal.
This current pregnancy is very hard for me emotionally. Nine months after giving birth, I found out I was pregnant again. I did not want to accept it. My body was tired and I was still healing from the emergency c-section I had with the 4th baby. I have had feelings of depression, anxiety, and feeling extremely overwhelmed!
My medical expenses are outrageous because I am over 35 and considered high risk. More ultrasounds and more expensive ultrasounds.
I feel like my time was wasted with the Essure. It has cost me more than I ever anticipated. I would not advise anyone get this performed and stick to the tubal.
