I had the Essure procedure done 4 yrs ago. My doctor was very clear about the discomfort I would experience during the procedure. He has been my doctor for nearly 20 yrs and I have no doubt about his medical skills.
It took 2 tries to get my tubes to close around the coils. My right side, the coil would not go completely in, there were a few rings extending out. The left side the coil went right in with no problem. When I had the HSG test done it showed the right side sealed but not the left side, so my doctor consulted with the company that makes Essure and they said a 2nd coil on my left side would be fine. In fact they had a representative (with my approval) observe the insertion of another coil on my left side. The representative also observed the placement of the right coil. She said that this would all be fine.
So now its 4 yrs later and I have had chronic bleeding non-stop since September 5th. I also experienced heavy periods and clotting, headaches and severe lower back pain since I had the procedure done. Sometimes the backaches were severe enough to take me to my knees, or headaches that kept me in bed. I have had many trips to the chiropractor for thinking I was in need of adjustments, but not so.
My doctor performed an ultrasound in search of fibroids and to rule out peri-menopause issues, but instead found one of my coils laying in the middle of my uterine wall. My doctor wants to study my test results and then I go back for another consult to determine what we need to do to correct this.
For the last 4 yrs I felt confident that I was permanently sterilized. Now at 47 yrs of age, I fear that I may no longer be protected because Essure failed me. I am grateful to my husband for supporting me through all of this, but I am shocked that this has happened to so many of us! I would not recommend the Essure to anyone after going through this experience.
