I got my Essure in 2011 after my surprise 2nd daughter. I was 30 years old when I talked to my OB /GYN about getting my tubes fixed to prevent any more surprise pregnancies. I suffered from PCOS and Endometriosis prior to getting the Essure and was high risk with both of my girls so knew that having another child would not be at all something my body could handle. The Dr. suggested the Essure and after reading the hand out and talking to him it sounded like a good option. A few months after getting it I noticed that I was gaining weight and had not changed my habits, I was unable to lose the weight it just was on and would not go down even with my family Dr. giving me meds for weight loss, seeing a dietitian and nutritionist. That was the start to noticing changes; I went from having a very high libido to the idea of sex feeling like a chore taking a toll on my relationship, I lose enough hair to make a small Barbie every shower and horrible mood swings, hot flashes and increased facial hair. I have thought that all my issues were due to the PCOS or some other issue that I may have been having I have had many different blood test done and spent many days seeing my Dr and he cannot come up with anything. The most recent and more serious issue I have is the severe swelling in my hands, legs, feet. I have now been sent to a cardiologist to make sure that everything is working right and am currently waiting to hear back. I had none of these issues before I got the Essure. I have looked into the possibility that I suffered from Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome but the Dr’s looked at me like I was making it up. My periods are all over the place and getting heavier the older I get, I have so many other issues that are common with the other women who have this birth control the only thing I want to do is prevent others from getting it and work to get mine out.
