Hello, my name is Barb and I am a 33 year old mother of four. After my fourth child in 2005 I had asked my OB about having my tubes tied. He told me about a safe new non surgical procedure that they have had a great success rate with called the Essure procedure. It sounded great. I hadn’t planned on having anymore children since I had 3 boys and had finally gotten my girl. The doctor told me that they would put me under for 15 minutes and insert the coils and then I could leave and would be without pain afterward. All I would have to do is come back i 6 weeks to have an ultrasound where they would shoot a dye into my tubes and make sure the procedure had been effective. Sounds great right? Well ever since I had the procedure done I have had extremely heavy periods where I almost can’t go into public without fear that I will have a problem with bleeding through. I can go through a super plus tampon within an hour. I have severe cramping and my periods now last 7 days with three of them being the extremely heavy days passing large clots of tissue also. I have also had an extremely hard time losing weight since the procedure where as with my boys I had no problem. I have also had an on going problem where the inside of my left outer labia will itch to extreme and keep me up all hours of the night for the past 8 1/2 years. I just had to have a biopsy done to find out why I was having this problem and the results came back that I have had cronic inflamation. They perscribed a steroid cream that I have to put on the effected area for 12 weeks. It hasn’t worked. Well for some odd reason I have found that I am allergic to nickel and other metals on the left side of my body. I will have problems with earrings on the left ear and not the right. I can’t wear a watch on my left hand or I will break out in hives and hence the problem with the left labia that started after I had the essure. My new OB said the only way to remove them is to have a hysterectomy. I don’t want to have to do that. She said I could have an ablasion to stop my periods which I heard is a very painful procedure. I wish I would have known then what I know now. I would have never had this procedure done. I have been suffering ever since.
