My name is Cassandra I am a single mother of three children. I had decided about a year ago that my family was complete. I didn’t want any more children. I am the sole income and knew I couldn’t be down very long so when I was told about Essure and the fast recovery I decided it was the best option for me. I did some research on it but I never found the negative side effects. I had the Essure inserted in late September 2012. Everything was fine at first. Then I started having extreamly heavy cycles. I started cramping and my periods started lasting longer. At first I figured it was no big deal I can handle it. I went to my doctor for my yearly check up and told him that my periods had gotten worse. He said he could put me on birth control pill to help or do a Hysterectomy because after all ‘I wasn’t using it’. At 29 years old I thought this was a bit drastic for just a heavy period. About a month after my check up I started to experiance pregnancy symtoms and extream stabing pain around my overies, I called my doctor and made an appoinment. We confirmed I wasn’t pregnant and my Doctor (the original implant doctor) didn’t even want to do an exam. I was told I had blood in my urian and he was just going to give me an antibiotice for an infection. I had to push the issue of an exam. After he finally did the exam he told me that my utiruse seemed a little to full and ordered an ultrasound. All they looked at was the size and placment of my organs. I was told after that there was nothing wrong with me it was all in my head.
I am the only person that knows my body, I am the only person that can feel the pain. I ended up missing work, It was effecting my whole life. I wasn’t able to take care of my chidren.
Lucky for me I had already found the Essure Problems group on Facebook. I was able to get a refural to another doctor that had helped another member. I want to see Dr. Gibbs, she listemed to everything I had to say checked out all my symptoms and decided that the only way to stop the constant pain was to have surgery. The coils can only be removed if the organs they are attached to are removed too. So on October 2, 2013 at the age of 29 I had a hysterectomy. I consider myself lucky that I was able to find a great support group and information on getting a resolution after such a short time after my major symptoms began. I feel I should have never been put in this position to begin with. I was never told about the side effects. I was never told about the nickle. I was not fully informed about this device when it was offered. I had to give up part of my body just to be healthy again. When all this started I didn’t realize my health problems came from this device. I got sick easier, longer, and my hair had started to fall out. How could something that was going to help me cause so many problems?
Just two short days after having the Essure device removed I am already feeling better. The sharp stabbing pain is gone! I still have a lot of healing to do, but my road to recovery has finely started. My body will heal but it may take longer for me to get over what I had to give up to be free of the pain.
