I had three children by the age of 25 (all with my husband). I saw an ad on the door at my OB/GYN’s office and thought it looked like a good idea… simple, same day, no surgery with no hormone side effects! Perfect because I do not like taking meds. The procedure itself was worse than I anticipated. My Dr had some difficult placing one of the coils. The follow up xray was also uncomfortable, but proved that the procedure worked and I was no longer able to get pregnant- yay! Worth the discomfort…or so I thought. Four to six months after the procedure, I began experiencing slight bloating, cramping and a dull ache in my lower abdomen and back (similar to the start of labor pain). I now also bleed after sex, and experience a discharge requiring me to wear a liner 24/7; which I change every 2-4 hours as necessary. My period can be anywhere from 4 weeks to 4 months apart from each other and be very light or extremely heavy, always different and unpredictable (which never happened before- I have always been very regular-almost to the day!) I am struggling with exhaustion, I am uncomfortable all the time. I am worried it is going to soon affect my children and my marriage as I am not the same person. After seeing two different Dr’s for different opinions I have undergone cryosurgery, cauterizing of my cervix, biopsies of my uterus… nobody can ‘figure out’ my problems and state it cannot be from the Essure, just coincidental. One Dr told me ‘well you can ready anything on the internet but I read medical journals all the time and I have never read of any complications with this procedure.’ Everybody treats me like I am some stupid female that is blowing this out of proportion. I do not know where to turn or who to ask for help anymore…. it has been a long and uncomfortable few years with no end in sight…
