In 2008 after my separation from now ex husband, I knew I needed some type of permanent birth control. I went to see my doctor wanting a tubaligation, but was told about this Essure in PA. At the time there wasn’t much on the internet about these coils. Had no clue really what I was getting into. I sign up and have outpatient surgery and have them implanted. 3 months later I go in for the DYE test, which I must admit was more painful than having the coils inserted.
Fast forward to 2009 and I begin to experience heavy periods, which I never had those problems before. The cramping the first 2 days of my menstrual cycle was horrendous and let’s not even talk about the weight gain. When I would visit my gyn doctor in TX, she would tell me that it was normal as we get older to sometimes get heavier periods. I took her word.
I suffered with all kinds of side effects until 2012, when the pain was unbearable and I took myself to the ER. I followed up with my GYN and an ultrasound as well showed that the coil on the right was perforating my uterus. I was scheduled for a hysterectomy on 08/2012 and my uterus with tubes were removed. I was supposed to at the time have my cervix removed as well but my doctor did not have the time to go in and clean up the scar tissue that was covering my uterus.
Something was still not right because although I was rid of those horrendous coils and I improved slightly… there was still lots of inflammation around my pelvic area. I finally decide to switch doctors and come May 2014, I had to have my ovaries and cervix removed… I had developed endometriosis. It was not scar tissue which the previous doctor did not take her time during my initial hysterectomy to see that everything should have been removed.
These coils are not safe but the FDA refuses to hear our voice. For 4 years, I suffered and ended up having major surgery to correct what supposedly were extremely safe coils to prevent future pregnancies. Then 2 years later, I had to go a second major surgery to finish what the first doctor did not do right.
Not only did them coils hurt my body, my emotional and physical well being also took a negative effect. I completely tell women to run as hard as they can from getting Essure which i know refer to E-hell.
This is my story…
