After having three beautiful children I decided to get the Essure for permanent sterilization, because I didn’t want to be put to sleep & I HATE needles and dislike hospitals. I found out that in my town the doctors do this procedure in the hospital being put to sleep. I asked for twilight sleep and my doctor agreed, but ended up putting me competely under because she said she could tell I was in pain.
Once I woke up from this surgery my Dr told me that I had 3 coils inserted in me. She said that when she deployed the first coil she couldn’t locate it, so she called Bayer and asked them what to do. They told her to deploy another coil on same side. She did then proceeded to next side. Said she didn’t know for sure where that one went or even deployed so she took an xray and it was located. She also told this same thing to the person that came with me.
I took the depo shot before leaving to prevent pregnancy. Three months later I go in for my Hsg. The side with 2 coils was blocked but side with one wasn’t. I had to wait 3 more months and go back for another Hsg. Guess what it hadn’t blocked my fallopian tube.
I had to go back in for a second surgery, which the doctor put me to sleep again! She inserted the fourth and final coil. I went back in 3 months for my final Hsg. It showed complete blockage.
So a simple painless procedure turned into 2 painful surgeries and 3 very painful Hsg’s. Not to mention the years of suffering in pain after.
I started to gain weight very rapidly, hair falling out, migraines, metallic taste, severe back pain, hip pain, musle/joint pain, horrible abdomen pain during ovulation and my period with huge blood clots, extreme fatigue, brain fog, anxiety and the list goes on. I had went to the doctor several times and she put me on Prozac (which she increased to 60 mg eventually), muscle relaxers, pain killers, anti inflammation drugs and iron pills. These are the medications I can remember off the top of my head. She also had me go to chiropractor, physical therapy, heart Dr, and neurologists. I had also had a hip xray in which the radiologist told me to let my Dr know that I had a coil that was way out of place. Im guessing they let the Dr know as well. When I went to her she said, ‘yeah one is in your stomach but its not hurting anything’ Me not being a Dr said ok. She then told me that she could remove it if I wanted her to, but it wasn’t neceasary. I just told her that if it wasn’t hurting anything it was ok. Shoot I had no clue.
I was watching the local news one evening and saw a segment on essure so I watched it. All these issues ppopped up the these ladies were having & I instantly told my mom, ‘I have every single one of those symptoms & have been treated for them.’ I hadn’t even considered the ‘once again’ painless simple procedure could cause me all these issues!
I joined the facebook page called Essure problems that the women on the new metioned and found a relatively close obgyn Dr to talk to. I went in for my first appt and I discussed what I had been through so he said he didn’t usually do an xray until the patient was in the O.R. but he wanted one of mine. He told me that it looked like one coil was by my spine and he wasn’t sure if the other 3 were in my tubes. That he was definitely going to remove them.
I was implanted with essure in 2009 and had a hysterectomy on Sept 29, 2014 to remove 4 coils, uterus, fallopian tubes & cervics. My doctor told me that 2 of the coils perforated my tubes and one coil ended up on my colon, (which he had to have another Dr come in to remove it) and another coil was laying outside underneath my uterus. He said 2 were actually in my tubes. He told me he had one a lot of essure removals but my perforation was by far the worst he has seen.
As of today I feel 100% better. I am have discontinued all my previous meds including the prozac. The only medicine I currently take is 1/2 a pill of something to help me sleep.
Essure has caused me nothing but aches & pains and the enjoyment of my life and fun with my kids! Lets get this off the market please!!
