I had Essure placed in 2005 after I had my son. I had one daughter that was 7 and had cervical cancer cells after her birth. My son was a blessing because I had waited so long to have another child and with my uterus undergoing leaps it was a risk. My doctor had recommended Essure for my situation because of having abnormal paps and my kids being so far apart in age. Being 27 at the time my husband I truly thought this was the most responsible thing to do since we hadn’t had our finances where they needed to be. Placement went ok and 3mths later my hsg confirmed closure of my tubes. It wasn’t until 1 1/2 yrs after I was experiencing abdominal pain in my left side. I went to my local urgent care and the Dr said see your Obgyn asap. He knew of the coils but wasn’t sure how to treat. I called my obgyn and at first she was in complete denial that my pain was from the coils. I begged for her to do an ultrasound, she did and gasped. I went into surgery the next day. My left coil had migrated out of my tube and was close to puncturing my bladder. She cut the coil and burned my fallopian tube because she could not get it out. I felt better until a few yrs later. The pain was back. I went to 2 different obgyns for help because mine ‘retired’ . They could not find anything wrong. I had my bladder distended along with several colonoscopies People thought I was crazy. Last year my health took a turn. I was in and out of doctors begging for an answer. Nothing. I know pain and I was in it!!! I became tired emotional and depressed. Periods are horrible. I would rather give birth again . I found an obgyn in Ohio which is 2 hours from where I live this year that did a transvaginal exam which my previous 2 obgyns had done 6mths before along with a hysto and found nothing when this Dr clearly seen that my left coil is completely out and is embedded in my uterine wall. Humm, right where my pain is!!! I am devastated that this was overlooked so many times by different doctors! And I was made to think I am crazy. My menstrual cycles are horrible now, headaches, nausea, diarrhea ,cramps, heavy flow. I am drained all of the time. To make matters worse, there are few doctors that can remove the Essure coils, but charge a fortune because insurance will not pay, unless it’s a hysterectomy. Which is said to be the safest way to make sure all of the Essure particles are gone. I am in constant pain and my job and family are suffering. I worry daily that these coils are going to damage a vital organ. I hope to get them taken out by the end of Feb or early March. I never imagined this happening not just to me, but to others also.
I really wish I would never had this procedure done. I’m so tired of being in pain but I don’t want to get a hysterectomy done. I’m too young for it!
