I am 30 and I have three amazing children. I decided that my husband and I were happy with the number of children we had so I had the Essure procedure in May of 2012. My doctor assured me that there wouldn’t be any pain except for mild cramping during the procedure and that it would be a quick procedure. I have had three children naturally so I can handle pain but the pain from this procedure was worse than being in labor all three times combined. So quite simply, he lied.
I was screaming because the pain was unbearable and the procedure lasted about an hour. My doctor perforated my fallopian tube by reinserting and retracting the coil on my right side to make sure it was in the proper place two times. I could see this because he had the tv screen facing me as he did the procedure so I could see everything. When the procedure was finally over, I became diaphoretic, nauseous, and very faint so much so that I had to wait an hour in the doctor office after the procedure because I couldn’t drive in that condition.
It’s been a year since the procedure and I have horrible pain and bloating during and after intercourse. I have swelling in my lower abdomen constantly and the pain when I become swollen is very hard to deal with and it’s making me depressed because I can’t live my life as a normal mom and wife. Over the counter anti-inflammatory medicines do no work for the pain anymore and I find myself being very tired, moody, and weak most days and I am constantly in pain. I am thinking about getting the coils removed because this is not what I signed up for and I do not know how much longer I can go on with this pain. Everything I was told and read about this form of birth control has been a lie and I tell everyone to not get this done. I hope I can get my life back soon.
