I had essure done three years ago after having three children. About a month after the procedure was done, severe itchy eczema started on palms of both hands to the point that skins started peeling off. People thought I had burns on both hands! I goggled and found I am having Dyshidrosis (acute vesiculobullous hand eczema) and got allergy testing done to confirm my suspicion of allergic reaction to nickel coils in essure.
My allergic reaction is getting worse over years, and I can no longer eat any food that is high in nickel without getting itchy blisters on my hands and legs. I can no longer eat chocolate, beans, nuts, spinach, asparagus, pineapple, lettuce, etc to name a few. Most healthy food (green leafy vegetables) is high in nickel so I can’t eat them. I am left to choose either low nickel food (meat, potatoes, processed food) and become unhealthy or eat high nickel food that are otherwise nutritious and suffer from allergic reaction.
The doctor who performed the procedure said they asked if I had nickel allergy prior to the procedure, but the question I was asked was… “Do you get rash around belly button when you wear jeans?” and my answer was “I don’t wear jeans.”. I didn’t know then if I had nickel allergy or not, but patch test should have been performed before the procedure…… I am trying to get essure out of me without hysterectomy by flying to a specialist in GA sometime next year when I have enough money since they don’t file for insurance and it will cost more than $5,000 including airfare.
