I had the Essure procedure done December 2003 in Las Vegas, NV. I had just lost a child, still-born in November of the same year. At the time, I was told since I almost lost my life and since I was high-risk, having 2 c-sections prior to this, that they were scared 2 operate on me. So instead of the common tubiligation, they suggested that I try the new procedure Essure. I wasn’t told about all the side-affects of the procedure nor was I told about nickel-poison associated with it.
Since having the procedure, I noticed a change in my body. My periods became more frequent sometimes twice a month n sometimes lasting 2 weeks. Menstrual pain that used to be slight before was intensified and I began having rashes. I thought it was due to my aging about the pain. I though maybe I had gotten bitten by an insect with the rashes. After a while of getting the rashes regularly, I began thinking that having these coils inside me may have had something to do with it.
I also noticed that I would have pain sometimes severe on both sides where my ovaries are located. My back began to hurt more and I started getting alot of infections. Even sexual intercourse had become painful and I started to bleed during sex and spotting even between periods. I knew this wasn’t normal, but every doctor that I told about it either didn’t know what essure was or dismissed that it could possibly have any connection to what was going on with me.
Needless to say it’s been 10 yrs. since I had it done and 10 yrs. of regret for getting Essure. I have dealt with this alone for 10 yrs. Noone in my town, Greenwood, Ms knows little or nothing about it and still ask me what it is when it shows on x-ray. It has affected my confidence and my love-life. If I knew then what I know now I would have never gotten Essure. I would have taken my chances or found another alternative to birth control.
I think it’s sad that my life didn’t mean nothing to big medicne. Profits and $$$ took precident over my qualty of life and I’m very disappointed with the system that puts these things on the market that do more harm than good.
