My name is Nicole. In September 2010 I opted for the essure under the advise of my doctor. He said it was less invasive and a permanent birth control. Right after surgery I woke up in ICU. I had aspirated during surgery. My doctor failed to intubate me because he said it was so fast and non invasive that he didn’t need to do it. I stayed in the hospital for over a week on a 100% oxygen.
My left lung was completely full of fluid and my right lung was three quarters of the way full. I also had pneumonia. There was eight liters of fluid around each lung. I had breathing treatments every 2 hours, arterial blood drawn every four along with ex rays. After I left ICU and into another room my doctor came in to tell me that he was so sorry! He then told me that he was only able to get one coil to deploy into my left Fallopian tube. He said the right would not deploy. He said he went through three packs and then decided to remove the left.
Well, he couldn’t get the left coil out. When he tried he said he accidentally punctured my uterus So he left it in!!! So, I left the hospital with one coil in my left Fallopian tube and none in my right. After about a month I noticed that my pain in my stomach was more intense. It was like a stabbing pain in my left lower abdomen. It was worse right before my cycle and then really intense after it was over.
I went for three years like this. The pain was so intense I just thought that after five children maybe my cramps were just getting worse. I started having dizziness, I was more tired and weak and the pain wasn’t going away. It was so intense i couldnt move or breathe and i was nausious. I finally went into the emergency room two weeks ago. They ordered a CT scan. That scan showed that my Essure had perforated my Fallopian tube and was out in limbo somewhere. They said they couldn’t tell where it was but that it needed to come out before it punctured my bowel.
I scheduled my surgery for October 11th 2013. It’s been three days since my surgery and I feel completely different!!! No more sharp, stabbing pain! No more headaches or feeling dizzy!!! My doctor took pictures of my surgery. She showed me that the Essure had attached to my intestines!!! She had to lift up my uterus to find it. It had went underneath and attached. While she was in there she said she found what looked like to be the start of endometriosis too. Not sure if that’s related to the coil but weird that the spot that she removed was on my uterus which was directly on top of the coil that was in my intestines!!! Strange!!! I really hope they take this product off the market. To anyone in the KC area my doctor DR Johnson does remove the Essure.
