I tried to have Essure done in 2011. I chose a Doctor who had the ability to do it in his facility to save the out of pocket expenses of a hospital. They assured me I did not have to be put under and just lightly sedated. I have had some major surgeries in my life, so I was not worried. Come to find out during the procedure that my cervix had to be dilated due to a procedure I had done in my 20’s that created scar tissue. The dilation process was so painful I almost passed out. I wanted to stop the procedure right then, but I stuck it out. The insertion of the first coil did not go well. They had a difficult time getting it in. The pain was the worst I have ever had. They literally had to hold me down. I was crying and stifling screams through the whole thing. Next came the other coil. I thought I was going to die. This one they could not get in and said I had to go into a hospital to be put under. When they took me to recovery I was hysterical. My boyfriend came in and was horrified to see the state I was in. The nurses could not get me out of the office fast enough. My boyfriend took me home, and I was so traumatized that I laid in bed and cried off and on the rest of the day. I never went back to have the other one done. 2 years later I get cramping every now and then and some sharp pains on the side the tube is in. I honestly never related it until now. I wondered why I would cramp mid cycle like I was going to start my period, but I knew I was weeks away? I am so glad now that I never had the other one done.
