I am 32 years old I had the essure procedure performed after my 4th child was born back in 2009. My doctor informed me of this new and very effective form of permanent birth control after my third child was born my insurance did not cover it at the time but when I became unexpectantly pregnant with my fourth child it was now a covered procedure through my medical coverage. I had undergone 2 c-sections over the course of 2 years a normal tubal ligation wasn’t an option during my c-sections because the hospital I had my babies at did not allow permanent birth control precedures. I informed my doctor that I didn’t want to have another surgery she began to give me more information about the essure and we decided to go with that. It all sounded so simple I would make an appointment it would be done in less than an hour and I could return to work the next day. I don’t recall hearing anything about side effects and up to recently thought it was just me. I have the worst pains if I could compare them to the contractions I felt when I was near the end of my deliveries but it is a different type of pain, my cycles last now 7-10 days and are heavy, I feel drained for at least half of the month. Every month I feel like I have just given birth all over again. I went to see my new doctor about this I had x-rays performed and ultra sounds. One of the prongs could not be detected although I know they were both inserted also I had developed cyst in my tubes. I asked my doctor what could I do to help with the pain and also my cycles. Oh, and my cycles never come at the same time I feel so out of control if I sit for too long and then move I could come through my clothing has happened a few time and is so embarrising for an adult woman. So my doctor tells me that I could get on the pill I already have experienced weight gain after this procedure I feared what going on the pill would do I already feel like my hormones are out of balance. I even inquired about an uterine embolizaton the specailist I was sent to about this couldn’t even tell me if that was an option because I have metal in in my body (the prongs) and the equipment they use for the embolization is also metal and she didn’t know if that would cause an issure. She was to research and get back wtih me and never did. I had gone back and forth regarding my issues I felt all alone never did a doctor make if seem like others had any issues after this procedure I thought it was just me. I am so grateful someone is looking into this. Even if I have to deal with this pain and uncomfortness for the rest of my life knowing that someone has to answer to this makes it a little better.
